1. CV

Thomas Lehmen is a free lance choreographer, dancer, performer and teacher.

From 1986 to 1990 he studied at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam.

From 1990 to 2010 he lived in Berlin. Here he developed many soli, group works and projects: amongst others "distanzlos, "mono subjects, "Schreibstück", "Funktionen", "It’s better to...", "Lehmen lernt".
Since 2011 he worked again in North Rhine-Westphalia and produced amongst others the works "Schrottplatz" and "Bitte...". Since 2013 he tours with the current project "A Piece for You" through the world.

The publications "Schreibstück"("written piece/writing piece", book and score for 3 groups in canon form) and "Funktionen-Toolbox" (aiming towards emergent communicative choreographies) caused lasting international stir and numerous variations.

His returning interests are the development of artistic formats and structures, communications and the human being which reflects itself in the environment and activity influences that with creative relations.

The approaches often show linguistic elements through conceptional methods and expressions. In the dance component he works amongst others with individual articulations, as well with interrelations of dancers and danced dialogues.

He taught at numerous universities worldwide and held guest propfessorship in Amsterdam, Hamburg, Gießen and Berlin. Several years he worked at the dance department of the Arizona State University and gives workshops on international scale as well.

In the teaching he works with the themes mentioned above, as well as choreographic systems, which aim towards specific artistic compositions within social coherences.
